What is Islam?
The word Islam means to submit your will to the will of the creator. We were
created for a purpose. Our purpose is to submit to Allah and worship him alone
without any partners or intercessors. Any act of obedience is worship. A
Muslim is a follower of Islam
The prophet Muhammed (Sal allahu allayhi wa salam) explained to us what Islam
(Submission) is
The 5 points mentioned above are known as the pillars of Islam. A man once
mentioned that he will do no more and no less than those 5 pillars. The prophet
Muhammed (SAW) said that if he is being truthful then he will enter paradise
Islam and other Religions
Islam calls everyone to the way of the Lord through peace and respect. There is
no racism, prejudice or discrimination in Islam
Surah 16:125 invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful
preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious
Atheism
Nothing creates nothing. Nothingness cannot create something. Something has
to create something
Surah 52:35 Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the
creators?
Christianity and Judaism
We follow the religion of Abraham (AS) who was neither a Jew nor a Christian.
And Abraham (AS) did not believe in a trinity
Surah 2:135 They say: "Become Jews or Christians if you would be guided
(To salvation)." Say: "No! (we follow) the religion of Abraham the True, and he
joined not gods with Allah."
Idolatry
Anything you worship besides Allah is only a created thing
Surah 16:20 Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and are
themselves created
Polytheism
Surah 112 Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He
begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him
Allahu Akbar (God is greater)
Surah 2:255-256
Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-
Qayyuum (the Ever Living, the One who sustains and protects all that exists).
Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is
he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what
happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in
the hereafter
And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He
wills. His footstool extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no
fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And he is the Most High, the Most
Great
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct
from the wrong path...

- Belief - To believe in the oneness and unity of Allah
- Prayer - Praying 5 times in a day starting before sunrise and ending after
sunset. The prayer involves bowing down to Allah
- Fasting - Abstaining from food and water during the day for the month of
Ramadan. Pregnant women, young children or anybody with a medical
condition such as diabetes is not required to fast
- Charity - Giving 2.5 percent of excess wealth to the poor every year
- Pilgrimage - Traveling to the ancient holy land as a means of connecting
and unifying the Ummah (body of believers)
